Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study was to establish the content validity of a Korean version of a sensory profile using a back-translation method.

Methods : Translation of a sensory profile(SP) was completed using 6 steps. Three Korean occupational therapists translated the text of a sensory profile from English into Korean. Then, three bilingual (English, Korean) occupational therapists assessed the language compatibility for 125 Korean-translated items. After correcting the inappropriate items, 12 parents with disabled children rated their degree of understanding of the Korean-translated items. Next, a review by committee was completed. The back-translator translated the final Korean-translated items back into the original language. One bilingual physical therapist and two native speakers then assessed the language compatibility and similarities of interpretation between the original
and translation versions.

Results : Among 125 Korean-translated items, six items were deemed inappropriate. After correcting the six inappropriate items, an additional fourteen items that were responded by 12 parents as inappropriate were corrected again. A final Korean version was completed by the reviewers of the committee. Using a back-translation method, fifty inappropriate items were selected and corrected. the back-translation process was repeated to attain at least 3-points in similarity of interpretation when the original and translated versions were compared. Finally, the similarity of interpretation between the original and translated versions showed conceptual equivalence.

Conclusion : The content validity of a Korean-translated version of a sensory profile was established through the following: translation, identification of the compatibility of the Korean-translated version, parents¡¯ understanding of the Korean version, a review by committee, and a back-translation method.
